Nothing in there about training and licensing, and the RSGB are not exactly the most dynamic of organisations leading the charge today. I don't think its likely to be the case after the results of this survey either.

To create interest with younger people, you must be far more "in touch", nimble, agile and fast to capture their attention and show where this hobby can "add value". It a much more competitive world, and neither Amateur Radio or the RSGB are keeping pace it seems to me.

I'd like to know more about the demographics in the UK, Age Ranges, Employed/Unemployed/Retired etc.

All that said, they are the only significant organisation in the UK to represent us and for that reason I'll always support them with my membership. But nothing they do bears any relevance to my day to day interests in the hobby.

Not sure this survey is designed well enough to capture the actual issues in the first place. Alas, I fear its not going to tell us anything we couldn't guess at today.Dexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14309286999489801885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29848928.post-47324926057046770052010-10-01T19:52:19.903+01:002010-10-01T19:52:19.903+01:00They do seem to have managed to avoid some of the ...They do seem to have managed to avoid some of the key issues in formulating the questions in their survey.

There's an interesting debate underway in Canada about the future of RAC (see for example http://ve3hg.wordpress.com/ ). I rather think that some of Peter's comments apply to the UK situation too.

Let me see, where on the RSGB website can we debate these issues?

73
David
G3XLWDavid Powellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18172390689410595692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29848928.post-42403597399552233192010-10-01T16:10:07.600+01:002010-10-01T16:10:07.600+01:00I think the website is s--- too! I expect the RSGB to provide me with a good magazine (which they do) and to stand up for our interests nationally and internationally.

I did enlighten them on my views of the future of the hobby in the light of shrinking gardens, increasing EMC threats, changing economic conditions and the impact of the internet, which I may expand upon in a future blog post, but I've posted enough this week already.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11984840704237681015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29848928.post-86802097746716850312010-10-01T14:27:39.401+01:002010-10-01T14:27:39.401+01:00I've also filled in the survey Tim, looking at...I've also filled in the survey Tim, looking at the questions I don't think any of it was about the future of amateur radio, but more the future and direction of the society.

Whether they take heed to what people say in the survey, and make changes I guess only time will tell.. they certainly won't like my comments on the website ;-)

73 Pete (2e0sql)Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08890388308234668896noreply@blogger.com
